The Family Farm

I love being a farmer and although some days are tough, I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s the best environment to raise a family. It’s great that I now get to make new memories with the kids that remind me of my childhood.

Our Farming History

We are a family dairy farm in Newport, Pembrokeshire, run by Dylan and Becca Roberts along with Dylan’s parents, John and Merryl. We are the 3rd generation to farm at Llwyngwair Home Farm, home of the Midoa herd.

The Llwyngwair Farm was originally part of the Llwyngwair Manor estate and was bought by Dylan’s, ‘Mam’, his grandmother, from the Bowen family in 1956. The Roberts family started milking shorthorn cattle and had a milk round, delivering milk to the local community.

Dylan, the Farmer

Dylan began farming at a young age, enjoying spending his time outside with the cows at home with his grandfather who farmed on Carningli mountain. Some of his fondest memories are of showing cattle at Nevern show. Dylan is ambitious, and he pushed himself to complete an Accounting and Management degree at Cardiff University, but in 2006, he realised he wanted to come back home to Newport to farm alongside his father, John.

Investing In The Future

Dylan’s passion for farming thrived, after a few years of raising his own stock and improving the environment where he farmed, the Midoa business began in earnest. The family have all worked extremely hard to create the Carningli herd as it is today. Dylan and Becca feel lucky and privileged to bring up their family in such a beautiful part of West Wales, hoping that their children will be the next generation to enjoy and work on their Pembrokeshire dairy farm. In 2017, they invested in a robotic milking parlour and milk production increased. It seems the cows loved this system too as there was a reduction in antibiotic usage as the cows became more in control and much less stressed.

Our Cows

The cows live a stress-free life!

Our prize-winning Carningli herd of 120 pedigree Holstein and Brown Swiss cattle are grass-fed on the pastures of our farm in Newport, Pembrokeshire.

We use our robotic milking parlour to milk the cows who are given free access to roam the dairy and they can milk as often as they want. This allows us to concentrate on looking after the cows instead of spending hours each day putting clusters on in the parlour. The cows live a stress-free life, where they are in control of what they want to do, which tends to be mainly, a lot of grass eating!

Our Future

Great tasting milk, how milk used to be in a by-gone age

We want to promote the ethos to ‘shop local’, locally bred cows, producing a food product that is distributed throughout the local Welsh community.

We are passionate about our land and our herd and confident in the quality of our milk. We are proud that we can achieve our business aims sustainably using refillable glass bottles and reducing plastic waste.
